The Rat Race and Its Many Traps: Get Out and Live Your Full Potential by Travon Taylor

The Rat Race and Its Many Traps: Get Out and Live Your Full Potential

Here’s quite an animated story to help us draw a bit of wisdom today: Akid was playing by a pond, having a great old time on a beautiful day. He sees this gorgeously hued fish, and exclaims, “Oh, wow, look at this fish.” The fish was darting around, showing his brilliance, going in circles back and forth. The kid goes on to wonder, “Oh, wow. This fish is so fast.”

He watched this fish for a little while, and was so intrigued that he went home, grabbed a net, and went back over to the pond to catch this fish. Now, he had to sit there and wait for a second. He took a couple of swipes at it, finally caught this fishwith his net.

He goes on to speak to the fish. “You’re going to really love it out here. Not in that dirty, old water. Why don’t you play with me out here? Look at this nice grass. Look at the trees. I’m going to call you Mr. Wiggles because you’re wiggling all around in this net, and I know you’re just dying to play with me, right?” The kid then puts the fish in the grass, and so he says, “Let’s play tag… tTag, you’re it!” He tags the fish and he starts running, and so he’s trying to run around. He’s like, “Oh, man. You’re not going to catch me.” He looks back and he sees the fish just kind of flopping and struggling in the grass, and shouts back, “Come on, Mr. Wiggles. Don’t you want to play with me? What’s the problem?”

Right around this time, our little boy’s dad shows up. He says, “Hey, son. How’s it going? What are you doing?” The kid replies, “Hey, I just found a new friend named Mr. Wiggles. Dad, he’s amazing. Look at him. He was just in the water and he was so fast in the water, I thought he would want to play tag out here. It’s so much better out here than that dirty, old water. Right, Dad?”

Surprised, his dad reacts, “Son, no. This fish can’t be out here. He needs to be in the water.” The dad grabs the fish and throws the fish back in the water, and immediately the fish goes back to his brilliance, and starts swimming with vigor, whirling in water, finally scurrying off.

Here’s the heart of the matter: How many of you feel that you’re like that fish out of water? How many people have come to you and told you that you need to be somewhere else to enjoy all the fun there is to be had?

I’m sure you’ve heard all these statements like, “Oh, it’s great over here. The grass is greener over here,” but while you’re there, you feel like you’re out of place, but you’re pretty much doing it because someone else told you that this is where you need to be.

However, upon reflecting, you feel that you are totally out of place, and there is much more for you. I remember doing things that I felt I wasn’t really me, but I was on a sort of automated course like a conveyor belt. This is what everybody else is doing, and this is the way to go. It’s as though there is just one way to maximize your life: This how I should invest my money, this is how I should be spending my days, and maybe I should work here and do this, thinking the benefits are good here.

A lot of ‘shoulds’ are hovering in our horizon.
It goes back to social programming: When we allow people around us to influence how we should be living our lives. This is a very powerful, yet quite horrible; epidemic that’s affecting pretty much everyone in this world. “You’re going to get up in the morning. You’re going to go to school, graduate from high school, study a bit more then graduate from college, then get a good-paying job. You’re going to get married and have kids, and you will need money to support them. Eventually you retire, then you’re going to die happy.”

Oftentimes, we get caught in this mental mindset that this is what life is supposed to be for everyone, and we default to this as our only option.

A lot of us call it the rat race; you’re going through the motions with social programming, and you feel that there’s no way out. You’re doing a job that you really don’t want to do, and you’re nowhere near fulfillment. You have to pay your bills, take care of your family, and so we get stuck in this hopeless hamster wheel.

I’ve realized that I’d rather live 10 more years doing what I love to do then die with happiness and fulfillment, than live another 40 years of just trying to survive.

There’s so much more that you and many of us are capable of. If you’re not living your life to find what your highest potential is, I’m telling you right now: You’re not really living life. It is in the pursuit of your passion that makes life worth living.

There’s so much joy and excitement and peace in the pursuit of a goal, more so than even the attainment of the goal, but the pursuit of the goal is what gets us up every morning. It’s what gives us energy to continue living another day. That is where true magic is.

A Look Back on Finding Success Within by Travon Taylor

The kind of mindset you’d want to have if you really want to have something in life. In a nutshell, it means whatever you want in life, you have to draw it to you. You have to magnetize it.

Now to give you some background on how I came to this point, when I was a lot younger, I wanted to have what most of us want—a nice car, a nice house, all the material things we see on TV and social media. These are the things that a lot of people consider as success, and I wanted to know how they were doing it. That was my motivation at first.

So when I was motivated by the material things, I would go from one networking company to another, and then to real estate. As it turned out, I dived into real estate during the recession and lost several houses that I bought in Missouri. I was jumping from one thing to another to make things work, all the while just trying to make money. I kept chasing success, thinking it was out there somewhere in an unknown place I needed to get to.

While all of these things were happening, I had to shift my focus and get into this self-discovery phase to find out what really makes me tick. Removing my focus from the money and putting it on what I truly want to accomplish, I went on to explore what was going to be the best discovery I ever had.

This realization dawned on me one day as I was going to seminar after seminar to find out what was missing. I realized that I was looking aimlessly and hopelessly for success outside of myself. All these years I’ve been chasing success as if it was a far-off object that I needed to run after so I could call myself successful. Most people have this mindset and I was no different. I realized that I actually have everything I need to succeed and that it is innate. God had given me what I need to be able to succeed and to do the things I was created to do. Once I realized this, I saw how liberating it was to be true to myself, to my true purpose or calling, and to share it with the world.

Now I go around sharing this wisdom with others. When this moment of realization comes to you as it did to me, that’s when success starts chasing you instead of the other way around. If you change your mindset, your attitude, and your perspective on things, you will magnetize everything you need and want. You will attract your heart’s desires. You will become the person that you were created to be. This is the blueprint for my book called Success Chasing You, which I use to reach more people to help them become successful as they should be.

The reason why some people are not getting the results that they want out of life is because they are not who they are created to be to attract those results. What they don’t know yet is they have something that this world needs. You have something this world needs that only you can give that nobody else has.

One example is if I try to be Kobe Bryant, one of the world’s greatest basketball players, even if I was good at basketball myself, I can never be Kobe Bryant. Only Kobe can be himself. He was created to become the Kobe Bryant that we know him for today. In the same way, you were created to be you and nobody can beat you at being you.

Find that something special inside of you. Deliberate on what you truly want that you don’t have yet and realize that all you have to do is reach inside to draw it to you. Stop living a life of “at least”. “At least I’m able to pay the bills.” “At least I’m able to make some money.” You weren’t created just to pay the bills and make some money. You are here on this earth to thrive, not just survive.

One thing I need to clarify is that money should not be your number one motivator. When all you think about is getting money, you will always step outside of yourself to get it. Stepping outside of yourself has a price tag. You can have all the money in the world but if you lose your soul in the process by compromising your authenticity, true happiness will not follow you there. Why? Because success is not from the outside. That’s why we need to search within and use our God-given gifts.

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY IN ONENESS: CONQUERING OBSTACLES TOGETHER

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY IN ONENESS: CONQUERING OBSTACLES TOGETHER

I’m glad we have the time to speak today about LION, a company I founded which also stands for Living in One-Ness. It was created to foster living in unity in all areas and levels of your life.

Listen to my story: If you want happiness, fulfillment, or any kind of success, you have to have unity. Here’s a perfect example on the importance of unity: Have you ever stubbed your toe? Not even your big toe, but your pinky toe, that little toe. You know how it just throws everything else off? You hurt it really bad, then you’re trying to walk and you find out you can’t, wobbling every way. You’re grimacing, and it affects your mood and everything else. It just throws your whole body off because of that one little toe, because your whole body needs to work together in unison in order for it to function properly. If one little thing is affected, the whole system can be thrown off—that’s how important unity is.

Think coordination: The organization of the different elements of a complex body or activity, so as to enable them to all work together effectively. Again, the key concept is effectiveness.

Think of someone who is trying to dance without coordination, which is ultimately ineffective, not to mention embarrassing. It simply doesn’t work. Coordination is everything, as we work towards a specific goal to accomplish one thing: Single-mindedness, with everything working together to accomplish a specific goal.

I was in the United States Marines for 12 and a half years. The very first concept that they teach you is the concept of the team. You are not even allowed to say the word I—”I am doing this, I am doing that, I am going here, I am going there.” No. It is, “This recruit, this recruit,” to let you know that you are one of many, you are one of a team; you are one part of a bigger picture of a certain goal that you’re all trying to reach together.

Everywhere you go, you can never go alone. You have to have someone with you—a battle buddy, your partner that’s with you. No matter where you go, your battle buddy has to go with you. You can never go anywhere alone. Everywhere you went, your battle buddy had to be with you at all times.

One of the most major events that you go through in Marine Corps boot camp is called the crucible, a series of obstacles that’s designed such that it is nearly impossible to complete it alone. You have to go through as a team together.

Keep in mind all these individuals with different minds, cultures, backgrounds, beliefs, skin colors, and skill sets, to have to figure out to come together with one mind to figure out how to overcome this one obstacle that stands between them and the goal—to make it to the other side.

This is an amazing, powerful concept that they teach that we all must learn from: External unity and coordination with other people means absolutely nothing if you don’t have unity and coordination within yourself. If you’re not focused on where you want to go and what you want to accomplish; you will just be off to the wind.

Ever heard “If you want to kill a man’s dream, give him two”? Think about that for a minute; that doesn’t mean you can’t have multiple dreams—you just have to understand how to prioritize them.

Sometimes, I have so many things going on in my head at one time, going into a frenzy and I kind of freeze because I’m bouncing here and there, I can’t really organize my thoughts because I have too many things going on at one time. That’s when I have to stop, relax, and think about what I need to focus on first.

How many of you know people who think one thing, but always do something else? They’re double-minded; they’re just everywhere with their thoughts. They say, “Hey, I want to do this,” but they totally do the opposite. That’s what you call someone that’s double-minded. They’re just everywhere, and if you’re double-minded, you can’t get anywhere in life. Their thoughts are not coordinated. They can’t focus on one thing, so therefore they get nothing done.

Hear me out: We are made of three parts—the spirit, the soul, and the body. If you want true fulfilment in your life, all three of these factors and these entities must be working together as one. Your spirit needs to be in line with your mind and your actions must be aligned to both.

You can’t have your spirit in one place leading you in one direction, your inspiration, then your mind just totally doing something else, causing your body to go haywire; it has no idea what to do.

True fulfilment (and the often elusive true success) shows up in your life when you align all three—spirit, soul, and body.
